About Marcel Lafontaine

Artist Statement

I was born in Timmins, Ontario. Growing up in Timmins, I discovered early on that I had an artistic talent.

With time, my work evolved and I learned to match colours and paint basic landscapes.Throughout the years, I honed my skills by working with acrylic and oil paint and I perfected three dimensional paintings.

In 2001, airbrushing fascinated me.  It is a medium that allows me to achieve photo realistic paintings.  I prefer the acrylic paint and inks to oil; they dry much more quickly and I am able to complete a painting much sooner.  The paintings are completed either with stencils or freehand. These techniques enable me to blend several colours together in a seamless way.  After taking numerous airbrushing courses in the USA and in the Netherlands, I now specialize in airbrushed paintings; I excel in portraitures, wildlife and pets.

The expression that viewers have when they see one of my paintings for the first time, is priceless and quite inspiring.

My paintings have been exhibited throughout Northern Ontario in museums and galleries. I was president of the Porcupine Art Club in Timmins, Ontario and I participated in the Northern Ontario Art Association for many years. I’ve also taught oil painting and airbrushing to adults and children.
